Being
a stone carver is one of the most challenging and satisfying forms of creativity.
I am constantly fascinated, motivated and tested by this physically demanding
medium. Sculpting in stone requires a reservoir of flexibility brought
on by the inherent characteristics of the material. Risk taking is
part of my nature and also effects my work, pushing the stone to
its limits. By taking risks, it is possible to achieve a higher level
of growth and, to me, this is what creativity is all about.
I am a native of California and have been widely influenced by the
beauty of the shapes and forms of our mountains, desert and ocean.
My
earlier work was primarily geometric-abstract; that is, strong evocative
shapes that could suggest a variety of emotions or subjects. Then
I progressed to adding water to my work, creating
fountains.
Now, my work has taken yet another turn incorporating more representational
forms. Sometimes, I like to use all of these elements at the same
time.
