concrete and granite 18 littleAfter two decades working largely with the external from of sculpture and displacing space with the volume and mass of granite, wood, copper, bronze in various combinations, I was offered two large live oak trees and it spawned a series of sculptures I call the "Lariat Series."CCS red grey 12 lv

I created and combined with granite, the naturally curvy or "loopy" oak.  These open forms reminded me of roper's lariats enclosing, thereby defining space, hence the title for the series.

The new series of cast concrete/copper sculptures, started in late 1999, which I refer to as the "Open Columns Series" was stimulated by a desire to get back to enclosed to internal space that was very much an aspect of my work in the 70's and early 80's.

Using copper to define the interior space enhances the evanescence of that space as only copper reflecting ambient light can do and the voluptuous glow of copper from within serves to draw the viewer into this space of reverie and mystery.
