By focusing figuratively on the play of light on water, Greve has concentrated our associations of the natural world into feeling and memory and dream, evoking lush myths that are not simply reflected in the images but are steeped in the painting process itself.  

Bravura elements of color and stroke defer to the effect of the whole; and each painting, different from the last as one hour's light is from another's, in turn defers to the broader scope of the series-just as the widening ripples in many of these paintings seem to emanate from an unseen disturbance beyond the boundaries of the canvas.
