Woman as River Landscapes My
mystical learnings showed as a child. Always gazing upward, I wrote
poetry that compared flowers on earth to stars in the sky. My ideas
continued to develop along this path through my life. My early work
featured vertical lines on horizontal canvases, representing the human
connection between earth and sky. Later, lines began to cross and
overlap, symbolizing the magic of a crossing point. There was a consistent
urge to capture the formless spirit and leave traces of the quest.
The last five years have been spent with a concentrated focus on transforming my painting, resulting in the Woman as River Landscapes. The Woman as River Landscape series examines water moving through terrain, symbolizing the interlinking essential nature of the human body and earth, giving earthly form to spiritual elements, expressing myself as a woman in the world, "Extending the body into all things." (Francis Bacon)
Together with a metaphor of river, the works emphasize the textural
use of materials. While studying my own aerial photographs or those
from satellites, I use the actions of paint on canvas to emulate the earth's
biology and map an images terrain.
