Richard Erdman
Erdman
balances his love of ideas and the hard work of sculpture with a love of
people and life. Indeed, his passions defy isolation, for they
are interconnected, as his sculpture shows. Fundamentally humanistic,
his sculpture also
reflects
his interests in nature, history, architecture, music, dance, and sport.
. . Though he thinks of sculpture as primarily aesthetic and physical,
a form of play, each piece is embued with a spiritual energy and an idea
which lend it perspective and unity -- and a bond with his other works.
For Erdman, everything is connected.
When
he talks about his art and materials, he emphasizes that connectedness:
"The human spirit is what my work is about, and how it relates to form
and space and time -- and our universe . . and the way to that spirit is
through the mind and the emotions and the senses."
