All of my work is based on the integration of art and science. At the same time it explores an interplay between highly structured geometric form and randomly patterned surfaces. Some of my work is produced in clay because of its plasticity that makes it possible to create forms with ever curving surfaces. Other pieces require rigid material, such as metal, wood, glass, neon and fluorescent tubes, for their completion.

Examples of both are represented in the color photographs shown here. The cubes are made of cast porcelain clay and fired by the raku method producing flame flashes in the glaze and causing carbon to be deposited on the surface of the clay.

The Schwarz Surface is a mathematical form that divides space in half equally
making it impossible to move from one space into the other. The
space between the forms is identical to the form itself, shown by their
placement in the spaces. I find this intriguing because it is so logical,
yet contradictory.

The Pentahedroid is made of blue neon tubes that have been placed within a two-way mirror tetrahedron. It is possible to see into the form and at the same time see its reflection in the surrounding space.

I believe that the most interesting works of art have grown out of the latest developments in science; at the same time, some of the most important discoveries in science have been based on concepts originating in art.
