Mary Lou Alberetti
Italian
Architecture is the basis for Mary Lou Alberetti 's ceramic wall reliefs.
Both the process and the theme are equally important considerations for
the creation of these wall reliefs called "Frammenti" (Fragments). Summers
spent in Italy provided the resources, and inspirations, for these works.
The architectural references, some literal, some more abstract, offer an
aura of timelessness and antiquity through their surfaces of multi-layered
colors and textures. The artist seeks to create a poetic quality in her
work, by capturing the essence and light and color in ceramic form.
The
work becomes an amalgam of drawing, painting, and sculpture through applications
of glazes and stains brushed, sponged, poured, and scumbled onto leather
hard clay. Deep sculptural clay reliefs are created by hollow construction
in modular units, built and carved, ranging in size from 18" square, to
70"x 24"x 5". Fired to earthenware temperature, they are then wired for
hanging as single units or as diptychs or triptychs.
Alberetti
's ceramic works can be found in civic, private, and corporate collections,
including H.B.O. World Headquarters (New York), and G.E. World Headquarters
(Connecticut). Custom orders are welcome.
