Allan Bruce Zee
Allan
Bruce Zee has been exploring the art of photography for the past 28 years.
He enjoys the challenge of staying attuned to the visual world to find
"completed canvases" with his unmanipulated photography. He is attracted
to simplified color palettes that cast new light on what we are accustomed
to seeing in our usual visual reality. He emphasizes the emotional impact
of color and a simplicity of composition that invites the viewer to attend
to the deeper layers of meaning in the photograph. The goal isto "liberate"
rather than to "capture"
the moment with his camera. Though his imagery is quite diverse, the painterly
feel of his photographs results in a stylistic unity that transcends this
diversity.
Allan's photographs range from abstract series entitled "Rustscapes,"
where Zee reveals the colorful mythology camouflaged in the often overlooked
surfaces of rusting cars and trucks. From this microcosmic perspective,
his vision expands to take in nature's landscape and man's imprint, with
images from travels throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Bali.
Zee's interest in oriental philophies permeates his work and is particularly
reflected in a series on the many moods of the Japanese garden. In addition
to his color photography he has an ethereal group of black & white
infrared photographs.
His photographs have been exhibited in galleries, one-person
and group shows in 14 cities nationwide. His photographs are included in
major corporate and private collections and health facilities across the
United States including IBM, AT&T, Apple Computer, American Express
Corporation, World Bank and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition, his photographs
are included in collections in Japan, France, Italy, Mexico, Canada and
Argentina.
